Over the fall I was visiting friends and we tend to stayed in the tiny lakeside cottage one in all them had just bought in the rolling hills of Wisconsin. It's about 10 minutes to the nearest very little town - Cumberland, WI.
Once you drive through Cumberland on a chilly October weekend there's not a ton going on. Not many cars on the roads, not many people on the sidewalks.
Except within the parking ton at George's Hardware. George's is packed. George's parking heap had a lot of cars than the local sports bar. And certainly he had additional traffic than his hardware competition a 0.5 a mile away. Of course, each of the 5 or six time we tend to drove by George's Hardware during the weekend his parking lot was full. Not just a automotive or two - FULL.
You'd think that each person in city was at George's until you drove by Louie's Finer Meats. His parking lot was continuously busy too!
I HAD to go in and check them out.
Not surprisingly, George's and Louie's had a heap in common. Here is what I found...
? Neither of these stores was fancy, but both were spotlessly clean with well-merchandised, neatly displayed items.
? Each of them offered a clearly thought-through merchandise assortment that was clearly tailored to their customers wants, wants, and desires.
? They both had great people working in the stores who approached, helped, and sold us precisely what we tend to were wanting for. In each stores we tend to left with more than we have a tendency to came in for and were happy concerning it. A hallmark of great selling.
? George's store hours simply could not be beat. He was OPEN FOR BUSINESS and his customers rewarded him for it.
? Louie's hosts a charity brat cook-out each weekend with completely different local faculty, sports, or non-profit organizations operating the grill and obtaining the donations. Louie is concerned in his community - I doubt people in Cumberland are eating Johnsonville brats!
? Louie has an fascinating web site with great info bout the individuals and history of the company. He tells concerning all the various awards his handmade product has won and you'll order online and find that award-winning sausage shipped right to your door.
In short, both of these merchants are laser targeted on providing nice products, great service, and a great expertise for their customers. Result: packed parking lots.
Cumberland, WI isn't home to a professional sports team, a symphony orchestra, lots of fancy restaurants, or extensive cultural offerings.
However Cumberland will proudly claim to George and Louie... 2 store owners who extremely perceive the key to retail success.
They LOVE their customers.
