Technical writing is different from copywriting but then there are things shared by each as well.
As an example:
1) Each types of writing want to be SPECIFIC. Here are examples to each:
? Bad (not specific) copywriting: "Obtain this Book and Make Cash!"
? Sensible (specific) copywriting: "Get this Book and Build $three,785 inside the following fourteen days!"
? Dangerous (not specific) technical writing: "Turn up the voltage regulator knob."
? Sensible (specific) technical writing: "Turn the voltage regulator knob clockwise for 2 notches."

2) Each sorts of writing want to be USEFUL.
? Bad (not helpful) copywriting: "Real estate investment is a good choice."
? Sensible (helpful) copywriting: "With ProInvest software you'll track all of your realty investments and obtain alert emails when your annual ROI falls below ten percent."
? Bad (not useful) technical writing: "Assemble your Communication Kit before using it."
? Good (helpful) technical writing: "Assemble your Communication Kit by warming up your solder iron a minimum of 5 minutes beforehand and using all the components in Module K BEFORE unpacking Module R. Skip Module RR altogether if you've got bought the International Navigator Model."

But, here are the two variations between the 2:
1) Copywriting wants to argue a UNIQUE profit that can't be found anywhere else. Technical writing, as long as it is correct, does not want to own any claims to uniqueness.
? Dangerous (not distinctive) copywriting: "Let's show you the way you'll advertise by using Google AdSense."
? Good (unique) copywriting: "This is the sole course on the market that shows how you'll use Google AdSense by auto-customizing the ads consistent with the profile of incoming traffic." [This claim is simply a fictitious example provided for illustration purposes.]
? Good (not distinctive) technical writing: "Enter your User ID and Password into the Login field."
? Sensible (distinctive) technical writing: "Enter your User ID and Password into the Login field on the upper left corner of Cardio-Synthesizer's Master Configuration screen."

a pair of) Copywriting wants to own a way of URGENCY in order to SELL products. Technical writing should never try to sell anything and should never push the user towards any client behavior.
? Bad (not urgent) copywriting: "Get MegaChef Tomato Chopper."
? Good (urgent) copywriting: "Obtain MegaChef Tomato Chopper TODAY and not only we have a tendency to'll take thirty% off the selling value however we tend to'll also embody a 3-piece Knife Set for you as a bonus. Restricted quantities out there ONLY TODAY!"
? Unhealthy (urgent) technical writing: "Check the System Status IMMEDIATELY and Connect Wire A to Wire B straight away NOW!"
? Good (not urgent) technical writing: "Check the System Status and create positive it is in GREEN state BEFORE you connect Wire A to Wire B since the Central Processor could burn if the System Standing is not in GREEN."
