Having looked at most of the Terran units so far, this will be the final article concerning the units of the Terran faction. This time around we will be tying up a few loose ends, covering two units which managed to slip through the net until now, but fear not they were both worth the wait!

If the new and improved Marines weren’t enough to satisfy your craving brawny infantry then this next unit most certainly will! Its moniker says it all...the Marauder is a new unit to Starcraft II which was previously known as the Firebat in earlier development builds. I am certainly a fan of the new name, a title that the Marauder most certainly earns. The Marauder is a heavy assault infantry unit which is more like a one man tank than a typical soldier. Armed dual grenade launchers, the Marauder can unleash a barrage of Punisher grenades to puncture heavy armour and the toughest of structures with relative ease. That’s not all, the Marauder has an extremely useful special ability in the form of its “Concussive shells” which enable it to slow down an ‘non-massive’ enemy units. Whilst this attack can only performed on one enemy unit at a time, it is highly effective against rapid moving units that are predominantly reliant on melee attacks, slowing them down to a sluggish pace and rendering them powerless whilst units with greater range are able to pick them off. Other than this, the Marauder also shines against the Zerg’s indomitable armoured Roach and also fares quite well against Stalkers and Immortals. Taking the rival factions as a whole the Marauder will be better deployed against the more armour-reliant Protoss than the Zerg. The Marauder is heavily armoured, especially for an infantry unit and withstand a fair deal of damage. Due to all this bulk, the Marauder does take up twice as many spaces in a bunker as a lowly Marine.

The final piece of the Terran puzzle comes in the form of the Raven. The unit has gone through more than one name change in development having been known previously as both the Nighthawk Vulcan and the TF-620 Nomad. Whatever you wish to call it, the Raven is an extremely versatile aerial support unit, reminiscent of the Science Vessel from the original Starcraft game. The Raven may weigh-in looking a little underwhelming what with its light armour, flimsy looking appearance and lack of any standard attack of its own, but as we all know appearances can be deceptive. Its lightweight frame allows for fast movement which is ideal for the role it performs as a mobile detector.

Despite not having a standard attack it does have a special move in the form of its Hunter-Seeker Missile which as the name would suggest hones in on enemy targets on the ground and in the skies and deals a fairly impressive 100 splash damage to any unit that is nearby when it goes off. The real benefits of the Raven are in the things it can deploy, namely an Auto-turret and Point defense drone. The former is armoured much like a structure and has a rapid rate of fire so can defend and harass equally well. The defence drone can protest other units against oncoming missile attacks, though is powerless against special moves. These abilities make the Raven well suited to both defending other units and bases as well as part of a raiding force against the enemies outposts and bases.

Well I think that completes our look at the Terran roster for Starcraft II, next we’ll be taking a look at the Zerg’s new line up, so watch this space.
