I am typically asked how I got into the purse design business. Did I study design in faculty? How did I've got the courage to start the business? Is it as glamorous as it appears? The answers to all of those queries are yes, simply did it and sometimes. As glamorous as the fashion business can be, the bottom line is that it is a business just like every different and the "bottom line" is what will undoubtedly make or break you.
I ran a fairly successful handbag and baby bag style business for almost eight years. I sold my baggage to stores like Barney's New York, Bloomingdale's and many different stores and boutiques in the U.S. and overseas. It takes time to achieve customers such as these but the key to it all has a product that the patrons and customers need and need. I spent many years banging my head against the wall making an attempt to induce into the "prestigious" stores and then one thing miraculous happened. My son was born and I realized I didn't have a cool diaper/baby bag to hold and I wasn't concerning to hold a plastic-coated Winne the Pooh bag (no offense to Winnie the Pooh - he is one in every of my favorites!). I designed my dream diaper bag in my head while rocking my son to sleep one night. I had a sample created, took some digital pictures of it and my sales reps and I were off to sell it - principally via the net and via those digital pics. The eye-opening part of this process was that small did I grasp that this explicit market was hungry for hip diaper bags.
There have been only a couple within the market at the time and I soon found that instead of having to call patrons repeatedly and ask them to buy my luggage, I literally had consumers calling me - asking if they could place an order. Most of them solely took a look at the digital pics and placed the orders - this was getting too straightforward, and it actually was that easy - all as a result of there was a DEMAND for the product. Not brain surgery I know however something several little designers and business homeowners don't understand when they start their businesses. They start as a result of they need a passion for what they're creating and, while I am all for passion, passion while not demand for your product can keep you chasing your tail for months or even years - not to mention costing you a ton of money
Therefore for all of you eager, passionate fashionistas out there ready to take the plunge and begin your own purse or fashion business - take heed. Build certain the market is not over-saturated and completely analyze the marketplace and subsequent demand for a product like yours and who knows, you could be the next big factor while saving yourself heaps of frustration & lots of cash!
