As a Baby Boomer, what are the downsides to Internet dating? I guess firstly, there isn't any personal service. When you join, you are asked to fill out your profile and this is done without any personal help. Often times, this is where many of us over 55's clam up and don't know what to say and therefore either write completely ridiculous profiles or ones that tell the reader absolutely nothing about us. Having to come up with your own description can be pretty daunting, and deciding to post a picture of yourself - let alone deciding WHICH picture to post of yourself is equally as hard. Then, we have to decide on what type of partner we are looking for.
It's good to know, however, that you can learn pretty fast how to fill out your profile and which pictures are the best to post, by just browsing through members that are already on line. Read the profiles of as many as you can, and get a feel for what you are interested in when you read it and hopefully you can portray a similar feeling when you write yours.
Internet dating is a good way to sift the wheat from the chaff. That is, get rid of the time wasters. If they don't meet your criteria like sex, age, or location then you can politely decline any further contact with them. They also shouldn't appear on your list of prospects if it is a decent internet dating company, rather than letting you have access to the whole list where you are exposed to countless numbers of those that are unsuitable for what you are looking for in a partner. It does seem, however, that when it comes to Baby Boomer internet dating that men are a little scarce - but don't let this put you off. As the internet gains more popularity, more people will rely on it for the convenience and therefore more men will embrace it as a great opportunity to meet women.
Being honest- but not divulging everything there is to know about yourself in your profile, is a winning formula. Have a flattering, recent picture taken and post it on your profile. This is what will "sell" you and attract who you are looking for in the best possible way. Have fun with Baby Boomer internet dating, if you don't find The One that you have been looking for, have fun making new friends and getting to know their circle of friends. You never know, you could meet The One through a friend you made online.
