I am 18 years recent and I've got been having migraines since before I might talk.
When I was a baby, just starting to run, I would have terrible fits where I'd grab my head and scream. My 1st memory of my childhood was a migraine.
My doctor thought I had a brain tumor till I had an MRI and different testing. I beginning seeing a neurologist within the fifth grade and went on my initial preventative daily medication. (I can't even bear in mind what it had been since I have been on thus many.) Because the years slipped, my medicines changed rapidly as a result of nothing appeared to assist my headaches. Finally, in eighth grade, they place me on Topamax. This worked for an extended time.
If my headaches started getting unhealthy once more,my neurologist would just raise the dosage.
It wasn't till my junior year of high college that I very started having major problems. One day once cross country observe, I just passed out with no warning. No one thought it was a massive deal as a result of it absolutely was a hot day and we did an extended run. But, it simply kept happening and I was having alternative symptoms: horrible dizziness, heart racing, and my limbs would go numb.
Therefore I had a bunch of tests done with my heart and everything appeared to be fine. The cardiologist referred me back to my neurologist and said folks with a history of migraines can have these symptoms. As it turned out, it had been my headaches inflicting all of this.
My neurologist determined I used to be having "complicated migraines" (or sort B migraines) and decided I needed to change medicines and he put me on Keppra. This didn't consider my system and I used to be having terrible migraines everyday together with passing out multiple times a day. I was visiting the emergency room almost every week. I used to be admitted for additional treatment.
All this was during the school year.
I missed 46 days of my junior year and lost several friends and a boyfriend because they don't understand migraines. Eventually, my neurologist put me back on my Topamax but raised the dosage, but I also had to go on birth contol, Yaz. I took the Yaz continuously so I would not have periods because my headaches and passing out always appeared to be a very little worse throughout that time. This worked well for regarding 10 months.
In March (of this year) I started with terrible headaches and dizziness. I passed out at my job and started missing additional school.
My gynecologist thought perhaps the contraception stopped working in my favor thus she switched me to Nuva Ring. The headaches and dizziness continued along with 3 additional instances of passing out. My graduation was two weeks ago and I nearly did not create it.
I basically "overdosed" on Maxalt which numbed the pain for maybe twenty five minutes but it did make me fully out of it, therefore between that and having an intense migraine I do not keep in mind receiving my diploma. My neurologist finally decided to require me off of the Topamax and place me on Neurontin. Therefore as of right now, I'm being slowly kicked off of Topamax and place on this new drug.
Unfortunatly, it's not doing much. I've got had a horrible headache (the can't take a look at lightweight or move your head up from the pillow kind) for the past month. The doctor is calling it a chronic migraine and he's giving me 2 a lot of weeks to try and break it with Maxalt, Zomig, drinking mass amounts of sports drinks, whatever else I need to attempt that hasn't seemed to work nonetheless or I've got to be admitted into the hospital for a second time for treatment.
