Visitors may arrive by car or they may fly in to Stanstead Airport (leave the crowds at Heathrow behind). Walton-on-the-Naze is a family seaside resort with plenty to keep both children and parents occupied. The large sandy beaches and beautiful seafront gardens are key features. The area also boasts the second longest pier in all of England. Walk the narrow streets and browse in to some of the shops. Go for a bite to eat and enjoy a pleasant day in this seaside area of Essex.
Well, a day at the beach is not necessarily the first choice of every visitor to Essex. There are many other activitie to occupy your time. Besides taking in the beauty of the land and maybe doing a little walking, hiking or exploring, there areplaces to see and places to be while in Essex.
One of the fun things for many people is to go antique shopping. The Battlesbridge Antiques Center has a unique setting along the banks of the River Crouch. Set out like a small village, a number of buildings, connected by walking paths form the Centre. More than 80 Dealers will buy or sell antiques, crafts and collectables. It's a great place to find out about an old clock or family heirloom as there are expert appraisers on site. Open 7 days per week, there is ample parking and they do serve refreshments.
Other things to do include visiting some historic buildings. In Chelmsford, take a tour of Hylands House and see the Chelmsford Cathedral. If you like arts & crafts, you'll love spending the day at the Blake House Craft Centre in Braintree. There are castles and there are guided tours of haunted houses to occupy some of your time.
