Choosing A Sanitizer Dispenser - What To Look For

Hand sanitizers help to keep us all healthy when used properly. This can be very important especially in the midst of the cold and flu season. If you are looking for one of these for your home or place of business, then you are on the right track. When choosing a sanitizer dispenser, there are certain factors you should consider.

Placement is always a big issue with hand sanitizer dispensers. These should be used when hand washing is not an option. They are a quick substitute until you can find a place to wash your hands and should never be used as a replacement for proper hand washing. This means that you really don't want them near a bathroom because that may give people the wrong impression.

These should be placed throughout the area in which you work or live for easy access. This gives people the option to use them when they are most needed. The idea is to give them a way to kill some of the harmful germs they may come into contact with until they can wash their hands with soap and water.

Germs can live on just about any surface. Germs can also be passed through physical contact and may even be air born. This is not to say that every time someone coughs or sneezes that they will pass on harmful germs, but if they can sanitize their hands, then it helps to prevent the spread of germs. Also if the person around someone who is sick has access to these sanitizers, then it makes him/her feel protected.

The solution in hand sanitizer is usually alcohol based. This is supposed to kill germs on contact. It can also be drying to the skin. Still people tend to feel better when they have it available for use especially in public areas where they may not be able to wash their hands right away.

Of course hand sanitizers are only one step in the process. You should wipe down areas in your office or home daily with a cleaning solution designed to kill germs. This prevents the germs from getting on your hands to begin with and limits the need for sanitizer dispensers.

These are also a great idea for children. If taught to use properly, they can cut down on time spent in doctor's offices due to minor colds and illnesses. This can also save you a lot of money. Kids are notorious for forgetting to wash their hands and they probably pick up even more germs than adults do. Besides this, their immune systems tend to be a bit lower and this can make them become ill quicker or have worse symptoms than adults.

Automatic dispensers can also be helpful. Unlike automatic faucets that often fail to deliver a proper amount of water for a person to thoroughly wash and rinse, automatic sanitizer dispensers deliver a precisely measured amount of sanitizer on each application. The only sticking point is that kids tend to need less than adults and the dispenser is most likely calibrated for a one size fits all. Moreover, because sanitizer contains alcohol, it should be used with discretion around kids and heat sources. Therefore, a hot garage or car is probably not the wisest place to store sanitizer just as you would not want to give a baby a bottle of whiskey to play with.
