Do you have got a boss, supervisor, manager or CEO who does not meet your expectations as a pacesetter? Are you involved that your new boss or manager does not have the right attitude, information, skills and behavior to lead, or are you worried that despite many years in a position of leadership, your boss continues to fall short of everyone's expectations? These are real life situations that play out each day in our workplaces, businesses and communities. Even on a bigger scale in society, how satisfied are we tend to of our civil and political leaders and their abilities to guide us effectively and towards success?

If you're dealing with a leader like the ones described above, or you think that you may be indeed that positional leader who is falling short of the expectation, one among the foremost important lessons you need to study leadership is that it is a method, and not an event. Leaders grow each day, and leadership is in itself a journey. The mere fact that you've got won an election, started a new business, married a wife, gotten a promotion, or arrived at a grip of leadership doesn't make you a leader. Authentic leadership is concerning a life-long commitment to learning and transformational amendment, that is needed for you to create the positive influence and success required of you as a leader.

Some of the challenges we have a tendency to have with ourselves as leaders, similarly as with our positional leaders is because we tend to haven't recognized and understood that Leadership is a process and a journey. Through this journey of leadership leaders would like to grow and become a lot of awake to themselves by reflecting, asking questions, and getting feedback from the people they lead. The new learnings from this process will enable them adopt totally different styles and approaches and engage their followers a lot of effectively. A ton of leaders jettison this process, and believe that having received their positions they'd hastily achieve a "god-standing", and that every one the powers and successes that "leaders" have will suddenly become theirs.

A great example of what I am describing will best be seen when a new leader is promoted from within the team. How can you be so myopic to believe that from the first day you'll gain everybody's respect or purchase-in; how are you going to match into the shoes of the previous leader so quickly; how are you going to heal all the injuries of the past and move forward? Honestly, this stuff take time, that if you do not apply yourself to as a systematic method, might indeed take forever, or really never happen. A lot of latest leaders who were great team members and performers fail to acknowledge this and fail woefully in their initial leadership assignments. I have seen folks fall into this trap, and struggle to retrace their steps quickly enough and learn the competencies required to be leaders. Some of them escape, wobble and fumble along to higher positions of leadership, but carry with them forever, the scars of their leadership events, instead of the learnings and changes required of a leadership journey.

Look around nowadays, and think concerning those samples of positional leaders who don't seem to be effective leaders, there's maybe a lesson or two that may be learned from their 1st leadership events or positions. As you observe newly appointed or elected leaders who appear not to possess what it takes - do endeavor to offer them a likelihood and support them through their journeys. If they are committed to life-long learning and transformational learning like all nice leaders should be, then their journey to leadership, though challenging can be blessed with success within the long-run.

As we tend to shop around us, we must additionally have a look at ourselves, and ask the pertinent questions - How have I treated my past and current leadership positions? Is leadership just an occasion, or am I in an exceedingly committed systematic process of growing every day as a frontrunner? Whatever your answers may be, simply remember that you can re-trace your steps and produce a true leadership journey as you still grow as leader. Specialize in continuous learning, feedback and a willingness to alter, and be committed, deliberate and systematic regarding it!
