All over the world, public demand and consumption for meat never fade away. Eating meat goes beyond simply being hungry as meat plays a role, not just in cuisine but also in culture, economics, society and even religion. In New York City, millions of people buy and eat hotdogs sold on the sidewalks or at Central Park. In Germany, beef, poultry and pork are essential forms of meat that defined the nation’s famous cuisine and the average German consumes as much as 140 lbs worth of meat per year. In the Philippine province of Cebu, the island’s famous roasted pig, called lechon by Filipinos, is easily the most popular food anyone can find in a party, at restaurants and even at parades. Also, who could forget about the irresistible smoked beef sandwiches found in Montreal, Canada?

Simply put, meat is widely popular for its delicious taste (regardless of culture, preparation or origin), its ability to greatly satisfy the hungry growl of the human stomach, and for its delicious appearance. Behind the meat, however, are several elements that lead to many health risks and these same things have contributed to many health problems around the world. In the long run, prolonged and dominant consumption of meat will lead the human body to eventual ruin and waste. The quest to eliminate meat based diet and adapt a healthier diet begins.

Meats are known to contribute to increased risks of fat, heart diseases, heart attacks, weakened immune systems, cancer and obesity. To eliminate meat from personal diet, one must be willing to be focused and disciplined on dealing with dietary change. Stopping consumption of meat is only the first step and looking at the healthy ways of the vegan diet is another. For starters, a person must be focused to gradually reduce the amount of meat eaten every day. Along the way, finding suitable replacements for meat (as well as satisfying the stomach’s growl) can be done by having bread, soups, some pastas, fruits and nuts. Having a salad with large amounts of vegetables is also recommended. Whenever the temptation of eating meat comes by, it is helpful to be reminded of diseases and health risks that come with meat. It also recommended to learn about the health and nutrition benefits that one could gain from the vegan diet. When dining outside, it is wise to be specific and requesting that no meat should be placed on your order (example: having no chicken on the soup, or ordering a pizza that involves no meat).

True enough, abstaining from meat is difficult and its wide presence on the market, the media and advertisements will always remind dieters about them. With pure focus and maintained discipline, achieving the meat less diet can be done and will reduce health risks along the way. With the rising popularity of the vegan diet, quitters on meat can have something to look forward to when it comes to their personal consumption and their wellness. With a lot of heart and focus, meat can be eliminated from the diet for good.
