Tales Of A Hollywood Tour Guide
Author/Narrator Stephen Schochet researched Hollywood and Disney stories and lore for ten years whereas giving tours of Hollywood. He had the distinctive idea the stories might be told anywhere and that is what led him to form the critically acclaimed audiobooks "Fascinating Walt Disney" and "Tales Of Hollywood". Here he shares some stories that happened while he was truly giving tours:
On one tour I discerned the Fox Plaza, the building that was blown up within the movie Die Hard. A tourist asked me "How did they place that building back together thus quick?"
* On the tour we tend to stop at Rodeo Drive. The people were returning to the bus once their visit and Steve Garvey came walking by. A life long Dodger fan I said," Hi Steve." Happy for the popularity, he visited to fulfill the folks on the bus. Sadly, the entire cluster was from England and Germany and not one person knew who he was.
* The day after OJ Simpson was arrested, I was doing a tour where we have a tendency to stopped in front of the Chinese Theater. My customers were looking at the handprints and footprints, whereas I stretched my legs close to a row of parked tour buses. 2 men, one with a filming camera approached me. "Hi We have a tendency to're from CNN. Are you a tour guide? We have a tendency to would like to interview you concerning OJ." "Sure." "Great. Roll the camera. We have a tendency to're talking to a Hollywood tour guide. Therefore did your customers raise you these days concerning OJ's house." "Well these days my folks are from Romania. They are here for the World Cup. I don't assume they care concerning OJ." "Well will you be adding OJ's house to the tour?" "Probably not because he lives west of the 405. We tend to go east of the 405 and we have a tendency to are thus pressed for time. I would not be shocked if we tend to have some guys who purpose at any recent house and claim that it's OJ's!" I used to be kidding however the reporter took me quite seriously. "Therefore tour guides do that do they? What tour company do you're employed for?" I assumed, who will this guy suppose he's, Mike Wallace? I pointed at one of the buses owned by a rival tour company.
* Once I 1st started coaching as a tour bus driver I rode with alternative guides to determine how they did it. One guy, sadly didn't endear himself to the shoppers with a patter of stale and sometimes sexist jokes. At one purpose he showed the Hollywood Sign, and told the tragic story of actress Peg Entwistle, who unable to reach the transition from stage to screen, jumped fifty feet to her death from the top of the letter H. He finished the story with the tagline,"After all the last person to jump was a tour guide who didn't get tipped." There was an intermission and then an Australian customer from the back of the bus shouted out," Oh yeah? Well there will be another one tomorrow!"
