If you are undergoing breast augmentation surgery or have just done so, you should draw strength from the knowledge that well over a half million women around the world undergo the procedure each year. The techniques and implant technologies used in breast augmentation surgery have been continually improved upon over the past few decades.

Today, success rates for this type of surgery are very high, while complications are minimal. Still, at the same time you must always keep your eyes wide open. After all, surgery is surgery. It involves anesthetics, incisions, bandages, and healing. Surgery is never to be taken lightly.

And, there is always the recovery process to think about.

Breast Augmentation Surgery Recovery

Recovery after breast augmentation surgery necessarily involves lots of rest and relaxation. For the first 24 to 48 hours after surgery, it will be important to have a friend or loved one on hand to care for you. (This includes driving you home from the hospital).

One of the most noticeable things you may experience during your recovery period after breast augmentation surgery is frequent changes in your emotions. Women who have just gone through augmentation surgery tend to experience various feelings about their new breasts, from dissatisfaction to elation to regret. All of this is normal and should pass in time.

In terms of physical healing of the body, breast implant surgery requires at least a few weeks of healing in most cases. Common symptoms during recovery include tightness of the skin, redness of the skin, pain, difficult holding down antibiotics medication, sensitivity of the nipples, numbness and discomfort around the incisions. Also, your new breast implants may not drop for at least a few weeks or months after surgery.

Driving After Breast Augmentation Surgery

Given that cars are such a big part of the lives of most women, one common question during recovery has to do with driving. If you are wondering, How long after breast augmentation surgery can you drive? , here are 3 things you should know:

1. Your wounds are in a delicate state: You should definitely have someone drive you home from the hospital or doctor s office after your surgery. During this period, your wounds have been recently stitched and are vulnerable to jarring movements of any sort.

2. You should avoid any exercise for at least 2 weeks: Any type of exercise and exaggerated should be avoided completely during the first two weeks after surgery. This includes running, jogging, swimming, having sex, or even picking up toddlers. And yes, this includes driving.

3. You may be able to drive within 2 4 weeks after surgery: As to when you should start driving again, consult with your doctor. But, in most cases, women can start driving again within 2 4 weeks after surgery.

Recovery after breast augmentation surgery is not all bad: you will have the satisfaction in knowing that you have finally gotten the new breasts you were wanting. And, with modern medications, the experience does not have to be painful. Just be ready for the gradual healing process to take its course, and avoid driving for at least 2 weeks after surgery.
