Each season has its charms, but spring might be everyone s favorite time of year. Here are some ideas for creating a photo book with a spring based theme.

Gathering Your Material:

There are so many great things abut spring, that you may think that you will have a hard time capturing it all. But try you must, and the best way to do that is to simply get in the habit of having your camera with you all the time. If you do, you will find that you start to think like a photographer and all the moments that occur, and all the little things you see, like that first blade of grass or the first tree on your block to blossom, you are able to capture. Also the more photos you take, the better you will get at it, and the more shots you will have to choose from when it comes to putting your book together. Yes, there might be a lot that you don t use, but the more you take, the better the chance that there are those photos where every thing composition, lighting, etc., all comes together. Make sure that you have a large capacity memory stick and that you load your photos onto your personal computer on a regular basis so that you are never left empty handed.

A thought about subject matter: make sure that you take plenty of photos of both people and of objects and landscapes. If your idea is to capture the essence of a whole season, you don t want to leave anything out.

Another thing you might want to keep handy is a small notebook that can fit into your pocket. This is a great way to help you remember where and when a certain group of photos were taken, the funny things that were said at the time, and what captions or other thoughts come to mind.

Arranging And Designing:

There are numerous ways to go about putting your book together. If you have a knack for layout and design, you can use a program like Indesign or something similar. If that is not your thing, or if it is out of your price range, there are plenty of free templates to be found online. Whichever route you go, keep in mind that little bits of text help to give context and add depth to the book. You also may want to consider interspersing photos of objects with shot of people, arranging your photos by categories such as month by month or parties, day trips, spring break, etc. This is a great place to get creative and put together a book that bears your individual stamp.

Printing and Binding:

Use the highest quality printing process that you have access to, if you want your book to look its best. When it comes to binding, you will want to use a hardcover binding machine. Your local print shop should have one on hand, or you can find an inexpensive one online (many for less than $100), and do the job yourself. There are many advantages to the latter, including the fast that the process is incredibly easy, and you can create as many photo books as you like, whenever you like, on an on demand basis.
