Each week I purchase at least one email from somebody asking about Crime and any attainable terrorism in Cebu. Some guys said they have read articles about bombs exploding everywhere Cebu City and armed forces forces marching down the streets of Cebu shooting people. FIRST OF ALL, there's NO terrorism in Cebu, No bombs exploding and also the last I checked the military wasn't marching the streets of the city. I have said it lots of times, Cebu could be a terribly safe place and I feel safer in Cebu than I did living in Fort Myers, Florida. As for the guys with the over active imagination I will solely suggest that you check your sources before making such crazy statements.
There is crime in Cebu, just as there's in any major world city in any country. On I needed to put in writing a long article regarding safety and crime in Cebu Town and also the Province of Cebu. My intent was to place to rest a number of the wild statements concerning Cebu and terrorism. Once more, there is not any terrorism sort activity in Cebu.
Anyway, as I started to research the crime statistics for each the town and province I found some terribly different numbers. Looks all the Philippine government agencies I checked for crime statistics have totally different numbers or no numbers at all. Needless to say this can be a bit of a surprise to me. Then again, it's the Philippines and totally different agencies use different reporting methods. The Philippine National Police PNP actually does not need to indicate any type of increase in crime numbers and also the Town government would not either, that might hurt tourism.
Here's the query, is there a rise in crime in the town and relying on which agency you raise the answer is yes and no. Much of the confusion is simply individual agencies protecting themselves and their jobs. As Cebu grows in population one can assume that the crime rate has gone up. The most important crime will forever be street crime like choose pockets and armed robbery. Most of those crimes will not be against expats, however Filipinos. Expats do would like to be aware that almost all Filipinos suppose we are all made and we tend to are walking ATM's. That simply means that do not go walking around the wrong space alone when dark. If you are doing then in fact you set yourself at risk.
I suppose this would possibly be a smart example. I lived in Fort Myers, Florida for about ten years before moving to Cebu. The Fort Myers area continues to grow every year. Lots and lots of people move to Fort Myers and there is heaps and lots of new homes going up everywhere the area. Fort Myers is a safe place to live, but has two known High crime areas, Pine Manor and Dunbar. Throughout the day these two areas are somewhat safe, but NOT at night. Going into these areas at the hours of darkness and alone is nothing but stupid. The same can be said for a pair areas of Cebu city. Colon and components of Mandaue aren't the safest place to travel at night.
Here's the difference. When somebody gets robbed, shot, raped or beat up in Fort Myers there's NO National headline or evening news program stating Fort Myers is a terrorist area and high crime space to avoid. But, when the same crime happens to an expat in Cebu there are World headlines and news programs stating Cebu may be a dangerous place. Why, because a silly expat didn't heed warnings regarding bound areas to avoid and becomes a crime victim and the Embassies picks up the story and issues travel warnings and then the story gets blown approach up stating the entire country is dangerous. All as a result of a tourist felt his nationality would shield him and he didn't would like to concentrate to warnings concerning sure areas to avoid.
When in Cebu you'll be able to expect to listen to of crime. When in Fort Myers you can expect to listen to of crime. You know the areas NOT to go to, SO DON'T move to those tiny areas that are known for crime. SIMPLE! Then you do not become a victim. I will still research the crime statistics and after I get some valid numbers I can write the article about Cebu Crime. Till then, please use common sense. Recognize where to travel and where not to go. Just like you do in your home country.
